Candidates for Chair and Vice Chair positions will go unopposed this coming Saturday during annual media awards and elections.
The much awaited 2020 MISA Malawi annual media awards and elections will be held in the capital, Lilongwe on Saturday, 3rd October, 2020.
The awards function will be part of the activities to mark International Right to Know Day, which falls on September, 28 every year.
The awards were initially planned for May 3, which is World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), but were postponed due to the Covid -19 pandemic.
This is contained in a statement signed by its chairperson, Teresa Ndanga dated 23rd September, 2020 to all members.
In the statement, MISA Malawi says the awards ceremony will be preceded by a panel discussion on the gazetted Access to Information Act and media freedom following.
According to Misa all COVID -19 preventive measures will be observed with attendance to the panel discussion and awards function limited to 90 people.
MISA Malawi says on Friday, October, 2, 2020, members will virtually vote for the new National Governing Council [NGC] to ensure eligible members are not disenfranchised.
Only those those who have been Misa Malawi members for two consecutive years, are eligible to vote.
The statement says only the position of executive member will be contested for, as the Chapter only received single Expressions of interest for the position of Chair and Vice Chair, Teresa Temweka Ndanga (Chairperson), Mandy Pondani (Vice Chairperson), Luciano Milala (Executive member) and Themba Mwale (Executive member).
Members are encouraged to vote for their preferred candidates for the executive member positions through a link that will be shared on Thursday 1st October, 2020 with voting to end at 6 p.m on Friday, 2nd October, 2020.
