State House insists that more women could still be appointed to various parastatal boards that are yet to submit their lists of nominees.

Last week, President Lazarus Chakwera appointed new parastatal boards whose compositions have sparked controversy in some sections of society over their apparent lack of gender balance.

The organizations, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), Women Lawyers Association, Youth and Society and  Gender Coordination Network have given the government seven days to reconstitute all boards that have failed to comply with the law, noting that out of the 67 boards, only seven have female chairpersons and that over five boards do not have any female representation at all.

The organisations threatened to drag government to court if it  if President Lazarus Chakwera fails to reconstitute the boards within seven days.

Reacting to the concerns, State House Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni however, stressed that all is not lost as some institutions are yet to submit names of potential appointees to their respective boards.
