The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is being pressed to expedite the case about a highly irregular procurement deal at the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB).
The demand by the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) concerns the 2016 probe and subsequent arrest of Sinosi Maliano and Charles Fodya for their involvement in the fraudulent transaction.
The HRDC alleges that Maliano used his position as Lilongwe Water Board Procurement Manager to give inside information to his relation, Fodya, about the tender to supply 5,000 prepaid meters to the board.
Upset by the incident, the project’s financiers the European Investment Bank reportedly halted its several other interventions in Malawi including the Lilongwe-Kasungu road project until the ACB concludes the case.
