While the country demands justice for the 19-year-old Dalit girl from Hathras who was allegedly gang-raped and then forcibly cremated by the Uttar Pradesh Police, the cops have been attempting to pressurise a been gang-rape survivor into settling for a compromise.
The woman who had allegedly been gang-raped in Shahjahapur district of Uttar Pradesh on September 24 over enmity approached the police and narrated her ordeal.
Two days later, the police lodged a sexual assault case against the woman’s 13-year-old son, allegedly in an attempt to force her to settle for a compromise. The woman’s family claimed that the police did not take any concrete action even as the accused continued to hurl threats at them.
The woman’s husband recalled the incident and said that the accused entered his house and started raining blows on his wife while he was away working in the field. The four men- Tejram, Mohar Singh, Girish and Ompal tore the woman’s clothes and gang-raped her. The accused did not stop here, Tejram allegedly brutalised the woman before leaving the house.
When the woman approached the police, they allegedly supported the acccused did not register a complaint under the relevant sections. The woman’s husband told The Times of India, “Instead of killing ourselves in desperation, we decided to fight for justice because of our children. I have mortgaged my wife’s jewellery for her treatment and for the feed of the advocate. ”
Kalaan SHO Dileep Singh Bhaduaria denied all allegations made by the woman’s family. Bhadauria said, “We had not changed the complaint but a different complaint was given by the woman’s nephew and the FIR was registered on that complaint. ” The woman’s son has been booked under section 354 (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman). He denied threatening the woman’s family.
