Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (Fedoma) has said it is dismayed with the element of ‘Impairment aspect’ which has been included in the proposed Termination of Pregnancy Bill.
The section allegedly gives a woman a right to abort when it has been discovered that the expected baby has has elements of impairment.
Speaking to journalists in Blantyre on Wednesday, Fedoma acting Executive Director Simon Munde said the notion of aborting unborn baby who has deformity or impairment is not only a danger to the unborn baby but also to the life of every person with a disability in the country as it clearly shows that the proponents of that legislation demeans the sanctity of life of a person with an impairment.
Lawmakers are yet to discuss about the legislation which has sparked controversy in the country, some Malawians are supporting the bill while others are against the it.
