A 36-year-old painter was murdered by his neighbor for allegedly attempting to misbehave with his wife at Golden Nagar locality in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur city late on Saturday. The deceased was identified as S Sureshkumar. The accused, identified as T Selvam (36), was arrested by the city police on Sunday.

A police official said an argument flared up between Sureshkumar and Selvam on Saturday night after the former, in an inebriated state, attempted to misbehave with the latter’s wife. In a fit of rage, Selvam smashed Sureshkumar’s head with a stone.

“During the late hours on Saturday, the deceased, who was under the influence of alcohol, had tried to misbehave with the accused’s wife. Enraged by it, Slevam had warned the deceased but it had later turned into an argument, the accused had picked up a stone and smashed his head with it,” a report by The Times of India quoted the official as saying.

The following morning, local residents found Sureshkumar lying dead outside his house. They alerted the police. Subsequently, a team of police officials arrived at the spot, recovered the victim’s body and sent it to a government hospital for conducting post-mortem examination.

Thereafter, police officials initiated investigations which led to the arrest of the accused on the same day. A case of murder under IPC Section 302 has been registered against him.

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly killed by two of her relatives over a property dispute in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh. The mutilated body of the teenager was recovered by the police from a barren field.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father, police registered a case and arrested the two accused, Keshav Kumar Choudhary, Sub Inspector (SB) Kanpur police said.
