Abuse of funds meant for persons with disabilities programs has worried Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA).

The Executive Director of FEDOMA Symon Munde said for instance there was money amounting to K600 million by the previous administration for the construction of houses for persons with albinism but nothing has been done as of to date.

“We want to know how the money was used because we feel that we are just being abused. Maybe the money was diverted to somewhere else,” he said.

Munde also said there was K200 million which was allocated to the Disability Trust Fund by the previous administration but they do not know where the money went and how it was used.

He said they tried to engage with department of disabilities but they were not in a position to give clear answers on the money used.

“The resources meant for persons with disabilities are vulnerable to abuse, something which is worrying us very much as a mother body for disability organizations in Malawi,” he said.
