A first date often comes with a fair share of awkward moments a long time before your friends get an itch to make things even harder for you.

And that was definitely the case for Stephen Durand, who was coming towards the conclusion of his restaurant date and must have been feeling at ease that the evening was going smooth.

Stephen had no idea his friend Lee Mclver had set up a major surprise to make him sink into the ground out shame with a lot of explaining to do to his confused date.

And after the two had finished their meals, the lights suddenly dimmed and a waiter brought a bottle of prosecco and a cheesecake plate bearing the words:

‘Will you marry me?’

And before the drinks were poured, the lady quickly raised her arm to let the waiters know:

“This isn’t ours. 100 percent this is not ours.”

Lee had planned the prank for a long time and even called Finsbay Flatiron in Glasgow pretending to be Stephen to tell the restaurant he was planning on proposing marriage during his visit.

On top of paying for the prosecco and the proposal cake, the prankster even paid for another friend to have a meal in the restaurant so he could record the whole thing, which cost him £140 in total.

Lee, who is a scaffolder by calling said:

“We’ve been laughing about it, about an hour before his date I phoned the restaurant and pretended to be him and said I was going to propose.

“The manager said ‘we’ll bring out the cake and a bottle of prosecco and dim the lights’.

“Stephen was just laughing, the girl was a bit embarrassed, she didn’t think it was for their table at first.

“I got a friend to go in and and film it and paid for his dinner, Stephen doesn’t even know him. He was there with a picture of Stephen’s face.

“It was £140 for the prank but it was worth it.”
