Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale Victor Musowa has asked the Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara to allow him move a motion that will permit legislators to discuss an emerging issue regarding allegations that some Malawians of Asian origin are segregating Malawians from their leisure centres.
The development follows social media reports that a certain woman was blocked from accessing a swimming pool facility at Mpingwe Sports club, saying its only meant for whites and Asians.
This angered Malawians and some took the issue to the social media asking the authorities to act with urgency on the matter.
Standing in Parliament, Musowa said the past two weeks, there have been allegations that Malawians have been chased out of bars, swimming pools among other places belonging to Malawians of Asian origin.
“I would like to move a motion so that we discuss the issue. This country belongs to Malawians therefore, if they don’t want to mix with Malawians they should take their property to wherever they are coming from,” Musowa said.
Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara has since asked Musowa to formally write her office detailing the concern.
