Late last week, news broke that Mohale Motaung had landed himself a new role on eTV’s Rhythm City, and the actor had received an overwhelming amount of backlash instead of praises.
The news originally broke when entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela shared his casting news, which opened up endless amount of critique towards the show and Mohale.
The backlash had even caused Mohale to trend throughout the day and the Twitterverse couldn’t help but discuss what his qualifications were for bagging the role – aside from being Somizi’s man.
According to an interview with JustNje, Mohale had gone through a gruelling audition process, which called for him to deliver his character in three different scenarios.
He also explained that his role was a self-tape, which meant that he couldn’t gage what the director was thinking of him.
After over a month and a half, he was told that he had gotten the role and was content knowing that they had taken time to make sure that he was the perfect guy.
Mohale also revealed that Rhythm City has enquired about his schedule for the rest of the year, implying that his contract may be extended. He believes that his character has a lot more to give and that he is not ready to exit the storyline just yet.
When asked about his acting career moving forward, Mohale shared that his goal is to bag a role as a straight man.
He believes that he has always been asked to play someone who is gay, and that he has always accepted it due to the comfortability factor.
He believes that acting as a straight man will test his skills and further prove his abilities as an actor in the cut-throat South African television industry.
