Police in South Africa’s Northern Cape town of Pofadder are investigating the death of a hotel owner that has reignited discussions on brutal killings.
The businessman, Leon Brits, was reportedly stabbed and strangled to death before being dragged into his swimming pool.
Mr Brits’ body was later discovered by his wife who was in another family’s home when the incident happened.
The hotel owner had complained about some theft in his hotel kitchen before his death.
Local leaders have asked for a thorough investigation into the murder.
’”The levels of crime that we are witnessing are simply unthinkable and inhumane. We cannot continue to live in a society where people are tortured to death on a daily basis and nothing is done about it,” said Veronica Van Dyk of the Democratic Alliance party.
