The Commissioner responsible for Central East Police Region Mr. Happy Mkandawire has advised people who use Bowe Police Unit to be tolerant and safeguard the facility.

The plea comes after angry people vandalized the police unit on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

Information indicate that the residents were baying for the blood of a habitual criminal who was in police cells for stealing a motorcycle.

The Commissioner made the request during an emergency meeting which was organized on October 8, 2020 at Bowe Trading Centre while he was appreciating the damage.

In his speech, Happy Mkandawire applauded the chiefs in the area for standing firm with police in protecting the facility.

However, he condemned the act and labeled it as retrogressive on the part of development.

“Instead of going forward, but with this kind of behavior we cannot develop.” He added.

Mkandawire further warned people in the area against taking the law into their own hands and ordered them to stop any act of mob justice.

He said, “in pursuant to social justice, all suspects must be prosecuted and sentenced accordingly once found guilty.”
