A 19-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her cousin brother, who suspected her of having an ‘illicit relationship’ with somebody. The incident happened Bhambuan village under the limits of Sanaur police station in Patiala district of Punjab on Monday.
Police said the accused, identified as PS Singh, fled after the incident and a hunt is on to arrest him. He has been booked for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Charges under the Arms Act have also been invoked against him.
The victim’s mother, in her complaint, stated that a heated argument broke out between her daughter and the accused on Monday afternoon after the latter said that she had an ‘illicit relationship with somebody. The issue had resulted in a dispute between them earlier also, she added.
“The mother of the victim… claimed that the accused brought a pistol and fired three rounds, of which two bullets had hit her daughter and one of the bullets hit the wall in the house. The forensic team and the cops collected evidence from the spot while the post mortem of the deceased is being carried out,” a report by The Times of India quoted senior inspector Paramjit Singh as saying.
In another incident, a 25-year-old youth allegedly murdered his 80-year-old grandmother at her house in Mumbai’s Bandra on Tuesday after returning from a rehab centre for drug addiction. After killing the octogenarian, the accused, identified as Christopher Dias, spread dismembered body parts across the room of her house, police said
The accused later called his father and informed him about the murder. His father, who was in Goa, rushed to Mumbai and found him sitting in the room in a pool of blood. Thereafter, the police were informed.
