A 22 year old Malawian national was shot and killed while attempting to fight off robbery suspects at a supermarket on Laura Street in the Tongaat CBD on Wednesday.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call at approximately 14:46 regarding the incident.
On arrival the victim was found lying in a pool of blood at the entrance of the store. He had sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest and died at the scene.
It was established that two men entered the store, drew firearms and held up the owner and staff.
During the robbery the deceased who is an employee at the business attempted to fight off the suspects when he was shot.
The gunmen then fled with a cellphone, airtime vouchers and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The RUSA R44 Helicopter is currently airborne (15:10) and assisting Reaction Officers in the search for the robbers.
