Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) gurus including Leader of the Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa, Jappie Mhango and Simon Vuwa Kaunda are this morning at Mzimba magistrate court waiting for the sentencing of DPP regional governor for the north Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira.
Mzomera Ngwira was convicted for abuse of office in the use of local development funds meant for construction of a teachers house at Lukwelukwe primary.
Ngwira was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2018 for diverting funds from the Local Development Funds (LDF) when he was serving as Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora Constituency.
The Bureau carried out investigations following an allegation it received in September 2010 over how LDF funds were used.
The ACB had received an initial complaint to do with invoices Ngwira presented of YOGI and Mzimba Hardware, purporting to have supplied building materials for Lukwelukwe School project, which was funded by the LDF under Mmbelwa District Council.
Investigations by the bureau established that Ngwira had advised the Project Management Committee to sign blank withdrawal slip and told them not to indicate the total amount to be withdrawn and thereafter, filled the blank withdraw slip with an amount of K650,000.
They are among scores of people that have come to witness the sentencing by Senior Resident Magistrate Mathews Msiska.
