Vice President of Malawi, Saulos Chilima is challenging district councils to come up with town plans aimed at urbanizing the towns.
The call from Chilima, who is also Minister of Economic Planning and Public Sector Reforms, follows his engagements with various officials of local councils.
At over 55 years of independence, Malawi is still backward in infrastructure development of districts, with advancement only seen in major cities.
Writing on his Facebook page, Chilima discloses that most of the plans shared by the council authorities are commendable but lack financial muscle for action.
He has therefore requested councils to submit reports reflecting futuristic plans of modern towns and centres.
