President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has condemned rising inhuman behaviours by certain Malawians who rape girls and women and stoning elderly citizens to death accusing them of practicing witchcraft.
Chakwera said this when he appeared in Parliament to answer questions from lawmakers.
“I am troubled in my heart. I am appalled and disgusted by certain behaviours that borders on not being human at all,” said Chakwera.
Chakwera specifically referred to the stoning to death of a 70-year-old woman in Dedza accused of practicing witchcraft and the raping of girls and women.
The Malawi leader said it was disheartening to see people taking law into their own hands.
“This country really needs to think its foundation as a people.”
He said he will not allow lawlessness to continue, but Malawians must observe the rule of law.
Chakwera requested the lawmakers to stand for a minute in silence in honour of the Dedza woman
