Police in Chileka, Blantyre are keeping in custody Feston Maduka,37, for an offence of grievous harm which is contrary to section 238 of the Penal code.
According to the victim, Naomi Maduka, a nine year old standard 1 girl at Maela primary school, on 18 October, 2020 she was ordered by her mother, Doreen Maduka to wash dishes but she did not wash.
When her father came, her mother reported to him that their daughter Naomi had refused to carry out house chores as directed.
Her father, Feston, became furious and tied the girl’s legs and hands before locking her in the house for some hours. He later poured some hot water on both legs and hands.
After noticing that Naomi sustained wounds on both hands and legs, they took her to a private hospital for treatment but neighbors reported the matter to police where after some investigations, the suspect was arrested and the victim was referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.Meanwhile, the suspect will appear before court soon after concluding preparing the file.
Police continue to call upon citizens to desist from any form of abuse or violence against children.
Feston Maduka comes from Chatha village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre District.
