First Lady Monica Chakwera has condemned the defilement of a 11 year old girl in Chikwawa.
Madam Chakwera said this in a statement to the Nation on Thursday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre following a video clip that has gone viral on social media.
The man, 38, is allegedly to have defiled the girl after offering her a lift on his bike to Nchalo to see her mother.
He then defiled her on the way and later dumped her in the bush.
In her speech, Chakwera pledged to fight for the dignity and plight of girls in the country.
She has since called for collective responsibility in protecting girls and report such incidences to police and local leaders to curb the vice.
On her part, spouse to State Vice President Saulos Chilima,Mary said she is heartbroken.
“This is why we need to join hands and protect our girl child! #savegirls from rape, child marriage and child pregnancy!” wrote Mary Chilima on her facebook page.
Meanwhile the suspect is in police cell waiting for trial.
