Police in Dowa have arrested a 25 year old man Emmanuel Chikoposa for allegedly being found in possession of fake money amounting to K72, 000.
It is alleged that on Friday evening, the suspect went to an Airtel Money shop at Dzaleka Refugee Camp Market belonging to a 17-year-old Congolese national, Malipo Bymungu to send K20, 000 to his relative in Lilongwe.
The victim (Malipo Byamungu) sent the money and received K2,000 notes amounting to K20, 000 from Chipokosa.
After receiving the money (cash), the victim realized that the notes were fake. He then immediately informed police who rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.
When the suspect was thoroughly searched, he was found with fake money in his pocket all totaling to K72, 000 in K2,000 notes.
Police have since seized the money.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of selling articles bearing designs in imitation of currency
Chipokosa hails from Chinyama Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.
