The Citizen For Transformation (CFT) Movement has appealed to journalists to be responsible when reporting news stories for public consumption.
This has been said in a press statement seen by Face of Malawi reporter which was signed by CFT’s spokesperson Negracious Justin.
The remarks follows a story which was published by one of the media houses on Saturday regarding Chief in Commander for CFT Timothy Mtambo.
The media house carried out a story alleging that Mtambo had said that President Lazarus Chakwera does not want to work with United Transformation Movement (UTM) candidate in the parliamentarian by-elections Frank Mwenifumbo.
In the statement, Justin asked media houses to first verify news before publishing any news stores.
“In the spirit of peace and responsible journalism, we implore on the media to verify the stories before same can be published for public consumption to avoid misleading the public on important issues,” Justin said.
The statement further added that the said allegations are not true and that they are nothing but cheap propaganda.
“We would like to place it on record that the aforesaid allegations are not true and are nothing but a product of a systematic smear campaign propaganda, perpetrated by CFT rival groups and UTM agents,” read part of the statement.
