Concerned Malawians have called on the Malawi Government to consider engaging with South African government to have Malawian-South African based prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary repatriated home.
The concerned people calling themselves Justice for Bushiri Movement said this on Wednesday in Lilongwe during a press briefing.
The group argues that the Bushiris, despite being holders of diplomatic passports and also high profile people, have gone through so much in South Africa in a series of court case that sound more as persecution than prosecution.
The grouping which is being led by Executive Director of Malawi Watchdog, Billy Banda made the call in Lilongwe today during a press briefing.
According to the grouping, South Africa’s Hawks, which arrested the couple is being unfair.
Bushiri and his wife who are being accused of fraud and money laundering were arrested few weeks ago by the Hawks.
The group added that despite multiple arrests, no evidence has been brought to court to date adding that justice is being denied through the delays.
They describe the three year detention of the two without trial as unfortunate.
The couple has been denied bail for three times since their arrests on October 20, 2020.
