Truck drivers in Lilongwe staged a strike against what they call unfair treatment from both government and their employers.

They blocked the M1 road at Kanengo where no heavy-duty vehicle is being allowed to pass.

Among their grievances, they said they do not want to be regarded as labourers but permanent employees, adding that some of them are still getting as low as K25,000 per month as wages.

Professional Drivers Chairperson Union, Major Mkandawire said that the strike is nationwide and they will continue with the strike until authorities intervene.
