A woman in Agartala allegedly threw acid at her boyfriend as he refused to marry her. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old woman was sent to 14-day judicial remand by a local court in Khowai. Allegedly, the woman’s husband started dating another woman and the same angered her.

The victim was shifted to the Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition. The man suffered injuries in his respiratory tract, nose and eyes.

The accused woman was identified as Binata Santhal. Santhal told the police that she had been in a relationship with the victim for more than 8 years. However, the man developed a relationship with another woman recently and she (Santhal) was upset with the same.

The woman said that she had known the victim for years, even when she was in school. The woman said that they shifted to Pune after the 30-year-old man completed his graduation. Santhal used to work as a maid in Pune, The Times of India reported.

In March 2018, the man returned to Tripura, leaving Santhal in Pune. For the next three months, the man ended all contact with Santhal. When Santthal returned in August, she could not find the man in his village. The woman then moved to Ranchi and started working at a health training centre.

During Durga Puja, the woman found the victim at Belcherra village and proposed marriage to him. When the man refused, the woman threw acid on him.
