A 110-year-old Ecuadorian man, who along with his 104-year-old wife, held the record for the oldest married couple in the world, has passed away.

Julio Mora passed away while sleeping in his bed next to the woman of his life, Waldramina Quinteros, whom he’d been married to for almost 80 years.

Earlier this year the happily-ever-after pair were congratulated by the Guinness World Records for being the world’s oldest couple.

“It was not easy because our relatives did not have a good relationship, but with time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations,” the couple told the Guinness World Records.

The couple got married only in the presence of their godparents and dearest friends but that did not hold them back from having a wonderful life and 5 sweet children.

“For us, Julio Cesar and Waldramina, it is a great honor and pride to have a Guinness World Records title because it is the highest award that the world recognizes.

“It is true that at this time it is difficult because we are overwhelmed by the pandemic that affects the world and we still do not have a solution. However, the first step for us is to follow the rules with respect and love life,” they said in a statement.

They had 4 surviving children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, as well as 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Their 5th child had passed away at 58 years of age.

According to Waldramina, the couple never fought, argued, and only disagreed about minor things.
