In a sad development, a Chegutu woman’s life is hanging by a thread after her vengeful husband allegedly laced her traditional maheu with poison.
Face of malawi has established from a local publication New Zimbabwe that Georgina Kadengu age 46 of Munroe Plot, Chegutu is battling for her life at Chegutu District Hospital after drinking traditional maheu that her husband Edward Mudoti age 50 had allegedly laced with poison as punishment for infidelity.
Mudoti allegedly attempted to murder his wife after suspecting she was having an adulterous relationship with an unidentified man from the same area.
A close source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed Kadengu fell seriously sick on Wednesday night after drinking the traditional sorghum brew when she returned from the fields where she had spent the entire day.
“When she returned home around dusk, Kadengu found her husband seated in their kitchen hut.
“She greeted him but he never responded. She went on to drink the maheu as she prepared supper. She started complaining of stomach pains immediately after taking the laced maheu,” she said.
Writhing in pain Kadengu immediately suspected foul play as her husband Mudoti had earlier on threatened to kill her.
“She writhed in agony but her husband didn’t render any help. He then vanished from the scene, leaving Kadengu alone and frothing on the mouth, said the source.
Luckily, a passerby noticed Kadengu laying on the ground writhing in pain. She quickly alerted the other neighbors who immediately rushed to assist. Kadengu was immediately rushed Kadengu to Chegutu District Hospital where she is currently battling for her life.
Meanwhile, Mudoti, who is a farm laborer, who fled the scene has not been seen since the day of the incident.
