State House has said that President Lazarus Chakwera is committed to improving the economic well-being of Malawians.
State House Press Secretary, Brian Banda, was speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Monday during the State House Weekly Briefing.
Banda said, among others, Chakwera would like the working class to have better take-home packages, which is why he increased the tax free bracket on Pay As You Earn to K100, 000.
Banda said Chakwera will also make sure that women and the youth are given loans to start businesses.
Banda said Chakwera would like to see Malawians coming out of abject poverty in the next five years.
This is also coming at a time the International Monetary Fund – IMF has spoken against the increase in number of the beneficiaries.
Responding to questions from members of the press, Banda said the president is on the right track as the initiatives are meant to end hunger.
