State House has said President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera cancelled the cocktail after receiving an invitation from Vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima to attend a public lecture held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.
State House Director of Communications, Sean Kampondeni said this during a weekly briefing currently underway at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.
Kompondeni said the cocktail which was scheduled for last Friday was not organised deliberately to clash with the #mindsetchange lecture by the Vice President.
He further said that there is no conflict between the president and vice president and he has rejected suggestions that there is lack of coordination between offices of the president and the vice president.
“In Chakwera’s understanding, it does not follow that because the vice president has an activity then the president cannot engage separately in another activity. The idea that if the president is doing something then the vice president must do nothing or vice versa is silly and belongs to the stone age, and should be left there.”
Kampondeni said the cocktail is not expensive as others have been propagating on social media.
