A 34-YEAR-OLD man of Mansa in Luapula Province who caused the death of his wife after a rough sexual encounter has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
This is in a case Eric Katinala, 34, was charged with the murder of his wife, Martha Ndakala.
When the matter came up for sentencing before Ndola High Court judge-in-charge Emelia Sunkutu, who was sitting in Kasama, Katinala was found guilty of manslaughter.
Judge Sunkutu said Katinala behaved very “poorly and appallingly” towards his wife.
“In fact his act before the demise of the victim amounted to gender- based violence, which is spelt out in the Anti-Gender-Based Violence Act of 2011.
“This is a very sad case because the accused behaved in a shocking and abusive manner without caring about the health of his wife,” she said.
Judge Sunkutu said no amount of sexual excitement justifies the death of a participant.
