In a sad development, a  family in Mhangura was struck by a double tragedy after a  man committed suicide soon after the tragic death of his father.

The publication  has established that Nicholas Chatumbuka Junior age 23 committed suicide after he received a death message about the untimely passing on of his father Nicholas Chatumbuka  Snr (52) who died on the spot after he was involved in a road traffic accident.

Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the incident that happened on October 27, at Nhangedzwa farm, in Mhangura at around 2 PM.

“On October 28, his body was found hanging on a tree branch by Alvin Chimanga (24) of D27 Dzimba Village, Mhangura,”

“He reported the matter to Mhangura police who attended the scene and his body was ferried to Makonde Christian Hospital mortuary for a post mortem,” said Kohwera.

However, this is not the first time the late Chatumbuka Jnr tried to kill himself. Mondreck Chimanga, a brother to the late Chatumbuka, who spoke to a local publication,  H-Metro revealed that his young brother had shown suicidal tendencies in the afternoon when he wanted to kill himself. Luckily enough, alert neighbors who were present at the time managed to restrain him.

“I think he overreacted due to stress.”

” He tried to take his life around 2 pm, but the neighbors quickly restrained him from committing suicide, by taking away the rope he had,” said Chimanga.

Unfortunately, the second time around, they couldn’t save him as he sneaked out in the dead of the night and disappeared into the darkness.

“However, during the evening, he sneaked out of the room and people ran after him, but he disappeared into the darkness,”

” We later found his body hanging by a tree branch in the morning,” he said.

Nicholas Chatumbuka senior was buried on Friday whilst his son was buried on Saturday, as the community believed that if they bury them at the same time, calamity might befall the family.

Inspector Kohwera called on members of the public to respect the sanctity of life and to resolve whatever differences they might have amicably.
