The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mangochi East—who is also a Public Appointments Committee (PAC) member for allegedly demanded a K2 million bribe from Michael Chiusiwa who was to be interview by the body.

ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala confirmed of the arrest in a statement made available to faceofmalawi on Thursday.

According to Ndala, Masamba has been arrested today and she will appear in court soon.

“On 24th of October the Anti-Corruption Buraue (ACB) received an allegation that Hon. Francesca Masamba, corruptly solicited an advantage from one of the candidates who was to be interviewed by the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament for the position of the Director of the Office of the Directorate of Public Officers Declarations (ODPOD) inorder to influence the decision of the committee of the National Assembly in favour of the candidate.

“ACB investigations established that Hon. Francesca Masamba solicited sum of money ranging from MK1,000,000 to MK2,000,000 inorder to influence the decision of the committee,” said Ndala.

Ndala said the suspect will likely be charged with corrupt use of official powers and misuse of public office contrary to Section 25(1) and 25B(1) of the Corrupt Practice Act.
