In a rather shocking development, a 34-year-old Zimbabwean woman was lured, drugged, and raped by a bogus doctor.
iHarare reports that the woman from Chitungwiza was raped by Leonard Mwale age 24 after he had lured her to his place of residence under the impression that he had the medication to cure her stomach ailment.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Mwale in connection with a case of rape which occurred on 4th November 2020 in Chitungwiza.
On the day of the incident, the complainant whose name was not supplied to protect her identity is reported to have posted a message on a WhatsApp group seeking help for a stomach ailment.
However, a group member who came across her message connected her to the suspect who lured her to his home.
Upon arrival at Mwale’s residence, the bogus doctor is alleged to have given a tablet and an injection which rendered her unconscious.
A report was quickly made to the police leading to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of various fake medicines and injections which include promethazine, rabies vaccine, nicotine, oxytocin, hydrocortisone, citimile, cetriaxim, promethazine metoclopramide, gentermide, aminophylline, and clofibrate.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned members of the public against divulging their particulars and seeking help through WhatsApp groups and visiting self-proclaimed medical practitioners/ prophets at their private homes.
This is not the first time women have fallen victim to bogus doctors and prophets. Almost on a daily basis women are hoodwinked and they end up getting rapped under the false pretense that they are getting healed.
