Youth and Society (YAS) has asked graft busting body Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to issue a stop order on the Lilongwe-Salima Water project.
Four years ago, Malawi awarded a multi-million dollar project to Khato Civils which among others would have seen Lilongwe Water Board tapping water from Salima to Lilongwe.
However, the project is yet to commence due to administrative issues as at one time the Contractor threatened to cancel the contract and commence legal proceedings against the government of Malawi for failing to honor contractual obligations.
But, record reports that the contract cost has now been revised downwards from the initial 298 Million United States Dollars to 227 million dollars.
This, according to Charles Kajoloweka, Executive Director for YAS raises serious questions and has since asked the ACB to intervene into the matter.
Meanwhile, ACB is yet to comment on the matter.
