The Zomba District Council has barred all non-governmental organizations from implementing any projects in the district without seeking permission.
This follows an outcry by residents from Chingale who recently petitioned the Minister of Local Government claiming that most organizations are ignoring the area.
In addition, the residents also accuse authorities of not assisting the area with critical service delivery such as health and education.
Speaking to MIJ Online after receiving the petition, Smart Gwedemula, District Commissioner for Zomba said the council will now have to vet every project that organizations are carrying in the district.
Meanwhile, Lonnie Phiri, Member of Parliament for Chingale Constituency has hailed the communities for following proper channels in issuing their concerns.
