United Transformation Movement (UTM) candidate in Karonga Central constituency by-election Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo has asked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) not to release results of the polls citing serious irregularities recorded in the constituency.
Mwenefumbo claims that they yet to be announced winner Leonard Mwalwanda, a candidate for the Malawi Congress Party did not register in the constituency hence he should not have been allowed to take part in the electoral process.
Former Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) member also claim that Mwalwanda was caught dishing out Mk10, 000 to electorate before and during the voting day.
MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed receiving a complaint on the matter, saying the commission is looking into the complaint.
Meanwhile MEC is set to release the results of the by-elections today in the capital Lilongwe.
