South Africans are yet to be imposed to another “strict” lockdown over Covid-19

The announcement is expected to come soon as President Cyril Ramaphosa is to address the nation late this week, local media reports.

Bloomberg reports that it got intel from numerous government officials who confirmed the development saying the regulations are currently being debated as the National Coronavirus Command Council gathers to discuss the future of the nation.

An outcome from this Friday meeting will determine the nation’s way forward concerning the hinted stricter lockdown.

From the country’s latest Covid-19 statistics by the Department of Health, the cases stand at a cumulative number of 740 254, with 1 729 new cases identified while the latest number of fatalities stands at a total of 19 951.

“Regrettably, we report 106 COVID-19 related deaths today: 12 from KwaZulu Natal, 24 from Eastern Cape, 15 from the Free State, 33 from North West, 7 from Gauteng, and 15 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 19 951,” Health Minister Dr Mkhize said in a statement.

While this, however, shows no alarm that requires such a harsh response, the statistics show a slow but steady increase that does require public attention.

And a tougher lockdown restriction is being mulled by the cabinet.
