President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is currently in Mangochi where he is resting after a harsh treatment in South Africa.
Chakwera’s Executive Assistant Sean Kampondeni said this during a weekly briefing held in the capital Lilongwe.
“President Lazarus Chakwera left Lilongwe for Mangochi on Sunday afternoon where he will rest for three days. He will return to Lilongwe on Wednesday and on Thursday he will preside over the graduation ceremony at Luanar,” said Kampondeni.
During the briefing, Kampondeni also read out a statement issued by minister of foreign affairs Eisenhower Mkaka expressing Malawi government’s displeasure over the treatment the South African government gave Malawi president Lazarus Chakwera on his departure to Malawi.
According to the statement, Chakwera was delayed by 7 hours for unspecified security reasons.
The statement further said that South African government was denying Chakwera’s team to get on board with him citing security reasons.
The statement has described the delaying of the presidential departure as improper.
