The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has put to task president Lazarus Chakwera administration on 1 million jobs promise that was made during the campaign ahead of June 23 presidential elections.

HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence said the President should come up with a clear roadmap on how he will fulfil the promise on creating 1 million jobs in the first year of his administration as promised.

This follows as Chakwera has now clocked 6 months in office.

During the campaign period, Chakwera and his deputy Saulos Chilima promised the public that the first year of their administration they will create 1 million jobs to the youth, but nothing has been done.

Gift Trapence HRDC leader made the remarks as Chakwera has clocked 6 months in office.

Trapence then said that at the moment there is no any direction as where the country is heading to as regards to fulfilling the 1 million jobs promise.

“A government that pledged 1 million jobs must have already known which sectors can bring jobs and it must have already known how such jobs would be created,” he said.

Trapence further said the Chakwera administration has not set deliberate policies in the 100 days to make sure that it creates jobs for many people.

Trapence has therefore has called on president Chakwera to provide a proper plan on how he will achieve the promise.
