The parliamentary committee on public accounts has given Phalombe District Council 30 days to explain the irregular expenditure of money amounting to 2.8 million Kwacha.

A 2017-2018 National Audit Report reveled that the council used funds meant for other development projects to service a loan with standard Bank without seeking approval from treasury.

The report further reveales funds amounting to 12 million kwacha were missallocated.

Shadreck Namalomba, chairperson of public Accounts commitee of parliament, said the council should explain before 30 days under whose authority did they decide to service a loan with development funds.
