Kenyan police officers in Makueni County are investigating two deaths after a male teacher and a high school girl hung themselves to death in separate incidents.

In the first incident, 38-year-old Muema Kitema, who was a primary school teacher is reported to have committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope on a cypress tree.

According to Musalala Assistant Chief, Cecilia Waithera, the teacher did not leave behind a suicide note.

In her report, Waithera said that the Muthethe Primary School teacher may have had domestic issues that pushed to commit suicide.

His body was taken to Nunguni Level 4 Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

In the second incident reported in the same sub-county, Nunguni, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself on the roof of a cattle shed.

The Form One student at Mwaani Secondary School is said to have taken drastic action after quarreling with her mother over a mobile phone.

According to Mwatiku Sub-Location Assistant Chief, Roseline Matata, the quarrel arose after the mother demanded to know who had bought the girl the mobile phone she was using.

Matata said that the girl’s body was taken to Kilungu Level 4 Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
