A mum who has been accused of hanging her two kids and having sex with the family dog plans to plead insanity.
Lisa Snyder was charged with first and third-degree murder after her kids were found dead in the basement of her home.
Her lawyers have now filed papers suggesting they intend to put forward the insanity defence.
Papers filed at Berks County Court cite a number of mental health conditions, which will be raised when Snyder goes to trial.
Snyder’s defence team have also requested a separate trial relating to charges of bestiality and cruelty to animals as it may “unfairly prejudice” the jury in the murder case.
The 37-year-old is also charged with child endangerment and evidence-tampering, reports Mail Online.
Earlier this year it was claimed Snyder could be executed if she is found guilty.
Snyder, from Pennsylvania, was charged with first-degree murder in December 2019 following a lengthy investigation.
It is claimed she phoned 911 on September 23, 2019, saying she had discovered her children, four-year-old Brinley and Conner Snyder, eight, hanged at home.
Ambulance crews were sent to her home in Albany Township to find the children unresponsive.
According to a 911 recording, Snyder told paramedics that Conner had been threatening to take his own life because he was bullied, and told her that he was afraid to die alone.
Conner and Brinley died September 26 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest after being taken off life support.
Snyder is also charged with tampering with evidence, endangering the welfare of children, animal cruelty and sexual intercourse with a dog.
The dog-related charges stem from sexually explicit photos of Snyder with the family dog that were uncovered during the investigation and are not related to the homicide charges.
At Snyder’s preliminary hearing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Margaret McCallum argued that Snyder’s version of how her children died didn’t make sense.
“Conner was incapable of doing this to himself. He was incapable of doing this to his sister,” McCallum said.
