A 37-year-old man, who was lodged in a Queensland prison after being arrested on the charge of murdering his teenage girlfriend, was allegedly beaten to death by another prisoner.

The murder accused, identified as Zlatko Sikorsky, succumbed to head injuries he sustained during a violent altercation with another inmate at Wolston Correctional Centre on November 10.

Correctional Services Investigation Unit of the Queensland Police initiated a probe into after the medics at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where Sikorsky was undergoing treatment after the jail assault, declared him dead on Friday morning.

“Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends… Support is being offered to the responding officers and their colleagues at Wolston Correctional Centre,” a report by 9News quoted the Queensland Police Services as saying.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sikorsky was accused of killing his 16-year-old girlfriend, identified as Larissa Beilby, in Logan in June 2018. Furthermore, he was also charged with torturing her, and depriving her of liberty, 9News reported.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to death by special POCSO court in  Chhindwara district Madhya Pradesh for raping and murdering a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in July this year.

The convict, identified as Ritesh Dhurve, lured the three-and-a-half-year-old minor victim with a Rs 10 note and took her to a room, where he raped her. The girl died during the sexual assault. After this, Dhurve, with a friend’s help, stuffed her body inside a sack and dumped it in a dam, special public prosecutor Samir Kumar Pathak said.

Subsequent police inquiries revealed the involvement of Dhurve and his friend in the girl’s disappearance, following which they were apprehended by the police. During interrogation, they admitted to having committed the crime.
