Police in Mzuzu on Friday arrested a Tanzanian national, Amosi Wahohle Satembwe, 45, for hitting a pedestrian to death.

According to Mzuzu Police Station Spokesperson, Edith Kachotsa, Satembwe who was driving a Scania Track Registration No T434 BKK/T490 hit the pedestrian at Chiwambo area along Ekwendeni – Dunduzu M1 Road.

“The accident happened around 9:30 hours in the morning. The vehicle was heading towards the direction of Mzuzu City but we are yet to establish the details of the deceased who was male,” said Kachotsa.

Kachotsa said the vehicle hit the deceased as he was crossing the road and attributed the accident to over speeding.

“He suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mzuzu Central Hospital,” she said.

According Kachotsa, Satembwe is expected to be taken to court to answer a charge of reckless driving which is contrary to Section 126 of the Road Traffic Act.

Satembwe comes from Ilala, Dar es-Salaam in Tanzania.
