On a sad note, a nine year old boy on Monday hanged himself in Chitipa after a misunderstanding which arose between him and his biological mother on the issue of dressing.
According to Public Relations Office (PRO) for Chitipa Police Station, Sub Inspector, Gladwell Simwaka, the incident occurred at Model Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mwaulambia in the district.
“The deceased, Given Kwenje was in Standard 4 at Nachiwe Primary school. On this fateful day, he was supposed to go to school at 1:30 pm but before he left, a misunderstanding arose between him and his biological mother on the issue if dressing,” he said.
Simwaka said her mother advised him to change the dirty clothes which he was putting on for clean attire.
“This did not go well with the deceased and ended up hanging himself under the door frame of the family’s house,” he added.
The PRO said the postmortem conducted at Chitipa District Hospital revealed that the boy died due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Kwenje hailed from Kalazi Village in the area of TA Chiwere in Dowa District.
Police in the District are advising people to always find better ways of venting anger other than taking own life.
