Former Acting Chief Executive Officer for National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Helen Buluma has said she is not shocked that she has been fired from the post at the company.

On Tuesday NOCMA Board fired Buluma as Acting CEO following a directive by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on the matter two weeks. The directive followed concerned raised by many Malawians accusing Buluma of being Democratic Progressive party (DPP) operatives.

Speaking in an interview with the press Buluma said her issue has been blown out of proportion considering the fact that she was appointed on Acting capacity for a period of 14 days.

Buluma said she has now revert back to the position of NOCMA Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

“I was appointed on the post of Acting CEO for a period of 14 days starting from October 29 and this was indicated in the letter of my appointment. If you calculate from the said date up town now you will find out that my stay at the helm has expired so to me there is no news there. This issue was blown out of proportion by the media but there is no issue there,” said Buluma.

Buluma took over from Gift Dulla on the CEO position after he was arrested in September this year for alleged abuse of office.
