South Africa: A man has been sentenced to 25-years behind bars in the Northern Cape for the rape of his 15-year-old niece.
The 32-year-old uncle committed heinous acts of violence on the young girl for a number of years, and the Galeshewe Regional Court found him guilty on Tuesday 24 November 2020.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Dimakatso Mooi said that the Northern Cape Police Management welcomed the sentence – which is the most severe possible in cases of rape – and said that the penalties and restrictions placed on him would prevent him from harming women and children should he be released back into society.
He said that the man’s campaign of evil ultimately ended when he was seen raping his niece by one of her friends.
He was arrested on 9 June 2020,
“The accused and was declared unfit to work with children and his name is included in the National Register for Sexual Offenders. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Mooi.
