Today, Police in Salima have destroyed hundred bags of loose Indian hemp by burning it.
According to the officers the hemp confiscated from different people over the years, some of who have been tried and convicted.
Police said the burning of the hemp was in compliance to a court order and public display that possession of Indian hemp remains a serious crime in the country.
The majority of those found in possession of hemp in Salima claim to have taken it from Nkhotakota, a neighboring district.
In a related development, police in Blantyre also confiscate bags of Indian Hemp and made some arrests over the week.
