Police in Salima on November 30, 2020 impounded 43 motorcycles on various traffic offences that were committed by some motorcycle operators.
The offences range from riding unregistered motorcycle, uninsured motorcycle, riding without licence, without crush helmet and carrying more than one pillion passenger.
The operation took place after seeing the increase in road accidents along the roads in the district involving motorcyclists and also the increase in robbery incidents where riders got injured and in some cases killed by their alleged customers who find it easy to resale the motorcycles because of lacking proper documentation.
The exercise is on going following government directive that the motorcycles should be properly documented by the end of the month of October, 2020. Before this operation, police conducted awareness campaigns on the same.
