A bitter break-up led to a man killing his girlfriend and wounding her elder sister in Ekurhuleni, South frica at the weekend.

Sibongile Mgabadeli, 40, was admitted to the local hospital after she was shot twice by the enraged boyfriend of her sister, Ncindelwa, on Saturday. She was discharged on Wednesday.

“He [the sister’s boyfriend] arrived at my sister’s shack where I was visiting in Extension 10 in Tsakane and demanded that we open the door, and when we refused he got angry and left. He later returned and managed to gain entry into the shack after breaking the door with an axe,”  Mgabadeli said.

She said after gaining entry into the shack, the boyfriend, who stays far from the area,  shot her twice.

“I was trying to break up the fight between him and  Ncindelwa, who had been in a four-year relationship with him,” Mgabadeli said.

“After shooting me, he turned the gun on my sister and killed her instantly. Our younger sister was present but survived the shooting. She ran out of the shack.”

The sister said that the boyfriend, who is also the father to their two-year-old daughter, had been abusing her 39-year-old sister during their relationship.

“We had told our sister to leave him several times, but he would always talk her back into coming home.”

A man who was with the boyfriend at the local tavern on Saturday night  said the man had mentioned that he wanted to kill his partner.

“He said ‘when I leave here I’m  going to kill my wife and her sisters because they influenced her to leave me’,” he said.

The man, who cannot be named, said he did not know that the boyfriend would really  go and kill them. “I was not even aware that he had a firearm. We are shocked as his friends and he is on the run now.”

The man also told SowetanLive that the boyfriend had been seen twice in the area after the shooting.

A neighbour said she heard the noise from the shack around 10pm on Saturday and thought it was just another argument between Ncindelwa and her boyfriend.

“This man is always aggressive and did not want to be reprimanded by anyone. After we heard gunshots and screams, I and other neighbours went to the shack and found Ncidelwa dead and her sister badly injured. The man just walked away with his gun before paramedics arrived.”

Police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo said police had opened a  case of murder and attempted murder for investigation.

“We are looking for the  boyfriend of the deceased, aged 45, who can help the police in the investigation,” said Masondo
