Former Head of State Peter Mutharika has asked Standard Banked to unfreeze his bank account which was frozen by the Anti-Grafting Body few months ago.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) froze Mutharika’s bank accounts over the investigations of duty free cement.
Mutharika through his lawyer Samuel Tembenu wrote the Standard Bank to consider unfreezing his accounts, saying the period in which the account had to be put on ice had erupted.
ACB put on ice Mutharika’s account, his wife Gertrude, his bodyguard Norman Chisale and former Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Deputy Commissioner in August, this year.
Last week ACB Director General Reyneck Matemba revealed that the former President is planning to sue the Bureau over the frozen account.
